Q. What are the benefits of sending a stardatecard?
Stardatecards are the first means by which the general public can personally interact with the Cosmos. Messages sent actually allow our thoughts, emotions, memories, memorials and tributes to become scientifically tangible in the Universe. Stardatecards allow something of ourselves and those we love, or have loved, to continue on long after we, our planet and our solar system have gone. Stardatecards are truly an electronic message in a bottle cast upon the great Cosmic Ocean.
Q. Will my message ever be discovered by someone, or something?
No one can answer that question for sure. Stardatecards are meant to be fun and to allow something of ourselves to exist for all time. Some think that life in the Universe is plentiful. If it is, and many millions of years from now if someone is looking our way, they would be able scientifically to see a transmission from Earth.
Q. Why will my transmission exist in space forever? Doesn't it ever dissipate, lose too much energy or just fade away?
The collimation of laser light means that the photons that make up your signal will not lose energy. They will exist in space forever.
Q. Will my transmission run into dust or other objects, like asteroids or planets?
Most all transmissions are purposely sent high above the plane of the solar system and galaxy, away from dust and objects. Larger objects, like planets and stars bend the light of a transmission around them. That is how we see distant stars that lie behind stars closer to us.
Q. Does a stardatecard laser emission cause light pollution in space? Is it dangerous?
No pollution occurs when a stardatecard travels through space as light is plentiful in the Universe. That is how we see the many stars at night. No people on earth or in space will be harmed by a light transmission should they cross the message's path as light emitted is in the infra-red spectrum.
Q. How do I know that stardatecards are actually sent?
Stardatecards' laser system monitors when emission occurs and correspondingly informs the web site that a message has been transmitted. Much like when an e-mail is recorded in the sent items folder on your computer.
Q. How will my message be sent in the Universe?
Your message will be transmitted using laser-light technology.
Q. Where will my message go?
Stardatecard astronomical targets are chosen by you, the sender!
Q.  When will my message be sent?
Your message will be sent during the month of your choosing, or an alternate.
Q.  Where will my message be sent from?
All Stardatecards are trasmitted into space from Science Alive! The New Zealand Science Centre located in Christchurch New Zealand.
Q.  How will I know where my message has traveled?
You may track the progress of your message as it journeys toward your astronomical target by visiting Stardatecards.com and typing in your confirmation number!
Q.  Who can I contact if I have problems or questions when I order a Stardatecard?
You may contact Stardatecards by email, mail or phone. Simply click on our Contact Us link for all of our contact information.
